Promoting National Women’s Health Week
April 27, 2009
National Women's Health Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, May 10th. It is a weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health (OWH) and is dedicated to educating women about steps they can take to improve their health, reduce their risk for many diseases, and live longer, healthier, and happier lives. Hearing health is an important component of women’s health. Not only does it affect their quality of life and well being, but it also affects how well they communicate with their healthcare providers. What’s more, women assume many important roles in our society. How well they hear affects how well they can communicate and manage their many responsibilities. Roughly 10 million women in America suffer from unaddressed hearing loss. We see our participation in National Women’s Health Week as an important service that BHI and the hearing healthcare community can provide. We look forward to making a difference in the lives of women across the country by educating them on how they can address hearing loss and preserve their hearing health. There are several ways you can partner with OWH to celebrate National Women’s Health Week. Here are just some ideas:
