Silence May be Golden, but There is No Silver Lining to Hearing Loss
I always knew we lived in a noisy world, but I never realized just how noisy until I recently read a study from Johns Hopkins University indicating 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. has trouble hearing. These high numbers are attributed, in part, to the increasingly noisy world where we live.
The recent issue of Miller-McCune magazine reviews the impact noise exposure have our quality of life in our modern world from several vantage points. A psychologist, psychoacoustic researcher, audiologist and a physician talk about the effects of noise and sound in general on our well being. Although noise exposure is harmful, the effects of a long term hearing loss are likely to be just as damaging to quality of life.

If you want to get your hearing checked quickly using a MP3 player (we call it a hearing screening in the biz), there is a really cool new App that can be downloaded on your iPhone or iTouch called uHear. You can find that at the iTune store: http://itunes.com/apps/uhear
