Better Hearing Institute Publishes First Consumer Guide
to Hearing Loss & Hearing Loss Solutions
ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 25, 2005) — The Better Hearing Institute
(BHI) today announces the publication of Your Guide to Better Hearing.
This 28 page booklet incorporates information from seven prior BHI
publications, as well as new articles authored by BHI’s Technical
Advisory Council (TAC) and BHI Executive Director Sergei Kochkin,
PhD. The TAC was developed by BHI to bring the knowledge of leaders
in the hearing healthcare community to the general public.
Newly-elected BHI President Stephan Sagolla noted that “BHI is deeply
indebted to the volunteers who donated their expertise and time to develop
what we believe is the most comprehensive information about hearing loss
for the public.” Volunteers on the TAC who contributed either as authors
or reviewers to the booklet as well as the new BHI website are: Ruth Bentler,

download. The publication
is also available for sale to hearing health professionals who want to
distribute it in their practice or as a handout in physician offices.

In announcing the publication, Kochkin indicated that a tremendous amount
of effort went into this booklet both in terms of the development of intelligent
and credible content as well as artistic style. With this booklet he stated,
“I believe we effectively leveraged the 30 year history of BHI, our
knowledge of the efficacy of modern hearing aids, as well as the
quality of life insights emanating out of the landmark National Council
on the Aging (NCOA) study.”
The guide covers the main topics that most people with hearing
loss will be interested in including: hearing loss, the impact of untreated
hearing loss, famous celebrities who overcame hearing loss, prevalence of
hearing loss, Tinnitus, a BHI Quick Hearing Check, hearing aids,
the positive impact of hearing aids on quality of life, when a loved
